What Are the Responsibilities of a Maid of Honor?

This is my first wedding and first time being a Maid of Honor. What duties and responsibilities should I be performing? The bride is new to all of this also. She is the first of our friendship circle to get married. So we are having a ball trying to figure what to do.

I think that you are supposed to throw the bridal shower and also decorate the honeymoon suite if you can.

Being the ‘Maid of Honor’ means that you get to plan the Bachelorette party, Bridal Shower, and if you want, give a toast to the happy couple at the reception. Sometimes the bride will also have you come along to help pick out her dress, and if she’s nice, she’ll let you help pick the bridesmaid dresses! At the wedding, you should carry the brides makeup/lipstick and make sure to help her in the bathroom with her dress and help her look beautiful and fresh all night. You’re pretty much her ‘right hand woman’…there for her whenever she needs you! Good luck!
your job is to do anything and everything for the bride…anything that she asks and to make sure she shines at the wedding…keep her gown looking perfect at all times
Here is a list that I recently gave my daughter. She had the same question it is no small feat!!
Wedding Planning Duties:
Help the bride shop for her wedding dress
Visit reception sites with the bride as a “second pair of eyes”
Help the bride choose the wedding flowers and reception decorations
Shop for the bridesmaid dresses
Ensure the bridesmaid dresses are ordered well before the wedding
Help address wedding invitations
Help make wedding guest favors
Purchase, address and send out bridal shower invitations
Host a bridal shower
Keep track of the gifts during the bridal shower (who gave what)
Host a bachelorette party
Attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
Help out during the rehearsal dinner
Buy the couple a wedding gift
Wedding Day Duties:
Decorate the reception site (and clean up at the end of the night)
Help the bride get dressed
Either pick up or receive (if delivered) the wedding flowers from the florist
Distribute the bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages to the wedding party and the couple’s parents and grandparents
Ensures all the bridesmaids are ready (hair and makeup) and arrive at the ceremony on time
Adjust the bride’s veil and train before she walks down the aisle
Hold the bride’s bouquet during the wedding ceremony
Hold the groom’s ring until the exchange of rings
Witnesses the signing of the marriage license
Participate in the wedding photos
Bustles the bride’s wedding dress for the reception
Help the bride in the washroom
Give bride’s gift to groom if bride wishes
Stand in the receiving line
Give a maid of honor speech and toast
Dance the first dance with the best man
And anything the bride wishes, within reason
u are the top girl…u will have duties like:
1. planning her bridal shower
2. Planning a girls nite out
3. telling the other girls in the wedding party what they can or need to do
4.write a speech for the wedding
5. maybe make something special for her like a scrap book of her and her new husband…
6. Help the bride pick out the dresses
7. help the bride with anything that she needs like making the invitations or favours.
U have a fun but stressful job …. a maid of honour is the closest to the bride and u should be very honoured to have that position.
